The Cab Ride

Twenty years ago, I drove a cab for a living. One night I took a fare at 2:30 am, when I arrived to collect, the building was dark except for a single light in a ground floor window. Under these circumstances, many drivers would just honk once or twice, wait a minute, and then drive away. But I had seen too many impoverished people who depended on taxis as their only means of transportation. Unless a situation smelled of danger, I always went to the door. This passenger might be someone who needs my assistance, I reasoned to myself.
So I walked to the door and knocked. 'Just a minute', answered a frail, elderly voice. I could hear something being dragged across the floor.
After a long pause, the door opened. A small woman in her 80's stood before me. She was wearing a print dress and a pillbox hat with a veil pinned on it, like somebody out of a 1940s movie.
By her side was a small nylon suitcase. The apartment looked as if no one had lived in it for years. All the furniture was covered with sheets.
There were no clocks on the walls, no knickknacks or utensils on the counters. In the corner was a cardboard box filled with photos and glassware.
'Would you carry my bag out to the car?' she said. I took the suitcase to the cab, then returned to assist the woman.
She took my arm and we walked slowly toward the curb.
She kept thanking me for my kindness. 'It's nothing', I told her. 'I just try to treat my passengers the way I would want my mother treated'.
'Oh, you're such a good boy', she said. When we got in the cab, she gave me an address, and then asked, 'Could you drive through downtown?'
'It's not the shortest way,' I answered quickly.
'Oh, I don't mind,' she said. 'I'm in no hurry. I'm on my way to a hospice'.
I looked in the rear-view mirror. Her eyes were glistening. 'I don't have any family left,' she continued. 'The doctor says I don't have very long.' I quietly reached over and shut off the meter.
'What route would you like me to take?' I asked.
For the next two hours, we drove through the city. She showed me the building where she had once worked as an elevator operator.
We drove through the neighborhood where she and her husband had lived when they were newlyweds. She had me pull up in front of a furniture warehouse that had once been a ballroom where she had gone dancing as a girl.
Sometimes she'd ask me to slow in front of a particular building or corner and would sit staring into the darkness, saying nothing.
As the first hint of sun was creasing the horizon, she suddenly said, 'I'm tired. Let's go now'
We drove in silence to the address she had given me.It was a low building, like a small convalescent home, with a driveway that passed under a portico.
Two orderlies came out to the cab as soon as we pulled up. They were solicitous and intent, watching her every move. They must have been expecting her.
I opened the trunk and took the small suitcase to the door. The woman was already seated in a wheelchair.
'How much do I owe you?' she asked, reaching into her purse.
'Nothing,' I said
'You have to make a living,' she answered. 'There are other passengers,' I responded. Almost without thinking, I bent and gave her a hug. She held onto me tightly.
'You gave an old woman a little moment of joy,' she said.
'Thank you.'
I squeezed her hand, and then walked into the dim morning light. Behind me, a door shut. It was the sound of the closing of a life
I didn't pick up any more passengers that shift. I drove aimlessly lost in thought. For the rest of that day, I could hardly talk. What if that woman had gotten an angry driver, or one who was impatient to end his shift?
What if I had refused to take the run, or had honked once, then driven away?
On a quick review, I don't think that I have done anything more important in my life.
We're conditioned to think that our lives revolve around great moments.
But great moments often catch us unaware-beautifully wrapped in what others may consider a small one.
PEOPLE MAY NOT REMEMBER EXACTLY WHAT 'YOU DID, OR WHAT YOU SAID, ~BUT~THEY WILL ALWAYS REMEMBER HOW YOU MADE THEM FEEL.
You won't get any big surprise in 10 days if you send this to ten people.

Prof: So you believe in God?
Student: Absolutely, sir.
Prof : Is God good?
Student: Sure.
Prof: Is God all-powerful?
Student : Yes.
Prof: My brother died of cancer even though he prayed to God to heal him.
Most of us would attempt to help others who are ill. But God didn't. How is this God good then? Hmm?
(Student is silent.)
Prof: You can't answer, can you? Let's start again, young fella. Is God good?
Student: Yes.
Prof: Is Satan good?
Student : No.
Prof: Where does Satan come from?
Student: From...God...
Prof: That's right. Tell me son, is there evil in this world?
Student: Yes.
Prof: Evil is everywhere, isn't it? And God did make everything. Correct?
Student: Yes.
Prof: So who created evil?
(Student does not answer.)
Prof: Is there sickness? Immorality? Hatred? Ugliness? All these terrible things exist in the world, don't they?
Student: Yes, sir.
Prof: So, who created them?
(Student has no answer.)
Prof: Science says you have 5 senses you use to identify and observe the world around you. Tell me, son...Have you ever seen God?
Student: No, sir.
Prof: Tell us if you have ever heard your God?
Student: No, sir.
Prof: Have you ever felt your God, tasted your God, smelt your God? Have you ever had any sensory perception of God for that matter?
Student: No, sir. I'm afraid I haven't.
Prof: Yet you still believe in Him?
Student: Yes.
Prof: According to empirical, testable, demonstrable protocol, science says your GOD doesn't exist. What do you say to that, son?
Student: Nothing. I only have my faith.
Prof: Yes. Faith. And that is the problem science has.
Student: Professor, is there such a thing as heat?
Prof: Yes.
Student: And is there such a thing as cold?
Prof: Yes.
Student: No sir. There isn't.
(The lecture theatre becomes very quiet with this turn of events.)
Student : Sir, you can have lots of heat, even more heat, superheat, mega heat, white heat, a little heat or no heat.
But we don't have anything called cold. We can hit 458 degrees below zero which is no heat, but we can't go any further after that. There is no such thing as cold. Cold is only a word we use to describe the absence of heat. We cannot measure cold. Heat is energy. Cold is not the opposite of heat, sir, just the absence of it.
(There is pin-drop silence in the lecture theatre.)
Student: What about darkness, Professor? Is there such a thing as darkness?
Prof: Yes. What is night if there isn't darkness?
Student : You're wrong again, sir. Darkness is the absence of something. You can have low light, normal light, bright light, flashing light....But if you have no light constantly, you have nothing and it's called darkness, isn't it? In reality, darkness isn't. If it were you would be able to make darkness darker, wouldn't you?
Prof: So what is the point you are making, young man?
Student: Sir, my point is your philosophical premise is flawed.
Prof: Flawed? Can you explain how?
Student: Sir, you are working on the premise of duality. You argue there is life and then there is death, a good God and a bad God. You are viewing the concept of God as something finite, something we can measure. Sir, science can't even explain a thought. It uses electricity and magnetism, but has never seen, much less fully understood either one.To view death as the opposite of life is to be ignorant of the fact that death cannot exist as a substantive thing. Death is not the opposite of life: just the absence of it.
Now tell me, Professor.Do you teach your students that they evolved from a monkey?
Prof: If you are referring to the natural evolutionary process, yes, of course, I do.
Student: Have you ever observed evolution with your own eyes, sir?
(The Professor shakes his head with a smile, beginning to realize where the argument is going.)
Student: Since no one has ever observed the process of evolution at work and cannot even prove that this process is an on-going endeavor, are you not teaching your opinion, sir? Are you not a scientist but a preacher? (The class is in uproar.)
Student: Is there anyone in the class who has ever seen the Professor's brain?
(The class breaks out into laughter.)
Student : Is there anyone here who has ever heard the Professor's brain, felt it, touched or smelt it? No one appears to have done so. So, according to the established rules of empirical, stable, demonstrable protocol, science says that you have no brain, sir.
With all due respect, sir, how do we then trust your lectures, sir?
(The room is silent. The professor stares at the student, his face unfathomable.)
Prof: I guess you'll have to take them on faith, son.
Student: That is it sir... The link between man & god is FAITH . That is all that keeps things moving & alive.

live with consequences
I know things cant be changed but at least we could learn something from them.
lately ive been thinking a lot about my decisions in life and my future. not that ive never seriously thinking about it but sometimes i wish i have made a better, different decisions. time is something you cant turn back and it is something that you have to treasure. it's just like your breath. every second counts.
Part of our growing up process is to make a decision and live with the consequences.
making decision is just like finding a way out in a maze. It could lead you to a more complicated road or it could lead you to a dead end. though sometimes we are going to the same destination but certain people taking more time to reach there because they took longer and complicated routes.
so How do u know if you are making the right decisions?
Honestly, I cant answer that.. sometimes u need to make a decision first and u only realised it
when it was too late to go back. from choosing what kind of food to eat and making bigger important decisions, it would shape what kind of person you are today. so are you a person what you have expected u were in the past? or are you totally someone whom you've never expected you are today? ive once heard this " We dont live long enough to experience all kind of troubles and learn from them but you can look around and learn it from someone else". so if you have made wrong decisions in the past, dont just stand there and waiting for miracles to happen to change you, learn from it or share it with others.Im not sure if i always make the right decisions but knowing God is always leading me to the right path and trusting God's wisdom to lead me to a better life is a great comfort.
so are you too afraid to make wrong decisions in life? yes, it's scary isnt? but I believe that's how life is, if you fall, stand up again, look back and learn from it. If you do that, it would make you stronger and a better person. so do not afraid if you make a wrong decision in life, it may hurt you sometime, but it keeps you human.
If you are having a difficult time to make decisions in life now or if you have struggles at this moment, take time to pray and surrender everything to God and Trust that He will show you the right path. Remember, ur problem maybe BIG, but God is BIGGER than your problem ;)

broke
going to thailand for the camporee and then planning to climb mount kinabalu, planning to visit my friend in singapore(havent inform her) but i wantd to visit her.
I never really liked those spoiled rich kids with "rich" attitudes, you know what i mean. if u r rich and u reading this rite now, this is not meant for you ok:P(u r reading something that u dont hve to agree with, so why argue?). born frm middle-class family, i do still feel being too rich would lead more complicated life and eventually u wud grow old wondering how you can u find more money money money, isnt that tiring??) well u may say, those poors(im one of them) also growing old thinking how to get enough enough enough money. what a complicated thought.. mbe i shudnt even put it here..
humm.. mbe i shud reward you with a better thought. personally, i think the most important thing is not how much do you have but whether you are content with what you have and how u r using/spending it. (why am i discussing something tht i dont even practise in the first place)..

super lazZzy
this past few days, i spent a lot of my times just watching korean and japanese series. im not really into blogging or 'friendstering' these days. weekend ws as usual. i was supposed to go to cameron highlands but was not able to go there coz i was working on last friday. we had our vesper last friday nite though only a few of us, still enjoyed our discussion. on sabbath not many ppl, it's holiday so most of the church members went back to their hometown. in the afternoon we visited polo's friend (hari raya).. nice rendang. we have a new AY member from indonesia, his name is Joshua, tall guy and will be working here for 5 years. my friends as usual trying the matchmaking game again.. huhhh, i feel sorry for him but im sure he would get used to it.. coz the more i tried to stop them the more they trid harder. at nite, went bowling. though not feeling well still coughing haha but i enjoyd bowling dat nite, still not good at it.
and then on sunday kmi makan sup sabah ramai2, mcm besa Dev's and da geng's idea. really enjoyed it nway. after dat went to lake garden. planning to jog but last2 makan lemang + rendang ja. today, they went to sg.congkak, i didnt go coz i was planning to do my work, programing stuff but couldnt install IIS, some windows file missing so need to setup tomorrow at office.
btw people ive changed my hp number again. ive like more than 300 contacts in my hp list and i hvent inform some of them abt my new number. i didnt realised ive that many, old2 numbers i think. less than 100 ppl knw my new number. im just too lazy to send sms and i dun feel like advertising my hp number here or in friendster. im easily annoyed n irritated with anonymous missd calls(for no reasons) or anonymous sms. this s one of the reasons why i changed my number, and the other one ws bcause the number startd with 014, ppl always confused bcoz all telcom(digi, celcom, maxis) providers using this numbr. sorry for the trouble guys hehe.

Another weekend's actvts
this mornig we didnt have our charobix, so i slept until 11:45am. around 3:30pm me and a few other friends went to our friend's place at sri tiara?(i cant remember the exact name). huhu it's a very nice condo, and we found out that the rental there is about RM6k to RM10K per month. we didnt plan to stay for a long but after went up to their place, and tried out playing some racing game, we endd up playing until 10:30pm. I just love weekends. planning to go for bowling again next week.. and i definitly would install some games in my computer. well maybe i would spend more time on games rather than watching anime or doing other things. kahkah..
Im moving out soon, we were told to move out since July. The landlord asked us to wait for her news whether or not she would be selling this house that we are renting now, and then only end of last month she gave us the notice and by end of this month we have to move out again. it's not something new for me anyway, coz since me here, ive been moving in and out for a few times already, to be exact 8 times alredi. kuroyon poh. gini lah hidup sini nih. not forgetting God's blessings, Thnak you Lord.

Apple-Guava : BEWARE

Me and my husband was at Kepong's Sri Sinar ( Kuala Lumpur ) pasar malam last Saturday ( 12 May 2007 ), saw this stall selling a "hybrid fruit" of guava & green apple. The seller (an innocent looking auntie) was also kind enough to let us sample the fruit. The fruit are sold in two types of
packing, pack of 2 or pack of 3. The pack of 2 was sold at RM6, while pack of 3 at RM7. The packaging is printed in foreign language (I believe is Thai) with a few graphical image on some fruits.
After tasting the sample (which is actually quite tasty, just like guava), we decided to buy 2 x pack of 3 at RM13. When we got home, to our surprise, the fruit is actually peeled guava (the seeded type) shaped to resemble an apple and coated with green colouring. Some of colouring came off after being washed. Not knowing what kind of colouring they use, we didn't dare to eat it even the colour only socked through the outer layer.
My brother (who didn't go to the pasar malam with me) told me that he saw this article on a local Chinese newspaper and apparently knew about this trick. He also indicated that these conman has been setting up stalls along highway, targeting at tourists.
I hope this message can reach as many people as possible, money is not a big issue here but what if the colouring is poisonous? Especially with so many contaminated foods sold around Asia recently , I think we, as a consumer should be doubly beware on what we buy, let alone eat!!! Spread the message across.

PJ Adventist Church Children's choir. i was really amazed with these young kids. they sang 10 songs continuously without music sheets! the original file size is 39.7MB running 2.02 mins. I managed to reduce it until 6.54MB, of course by sacrificing the quality. one more thing.. sia tdk pandai ambil video! waduhh ngapain goyang jah, ishh..

Passing by part II
later on, i checked the laptop and told my colleague who incharge for for laptops to give it to the guy later when he come to pick it up then i went somewhere to attend another comp prob. I told her about the guy just in case he's giving another prob.
I spent a few hours to check on other computers and then went back to my office. my colleague told me that the previous guy was asking who i was while i was away.. im quite new there by the way. he thought i was a new clerk because i was sitting at my friend's place. when my frend told me that i was a new pen pegawai there he was surprised and said "oh",, my friend said mbe he treated me that way coz he thought i was a kerani.. but that's not the main point rite. so i said to my fren. "oh jadi kalau bukan pegawai mcm tu lah cara dia bckp". i really dont like people who treat others just based on status or positions. if because the person has bad characters or attitudes than it would be understandable.. huhh dunia dunia..

passing by
curious, i asked her why since i think our place now is quite convenient for her to come to work.
she paused for a few seconds, her expression telling me that i shudnt askd her abt it, i thought she wont answer my question and then with a slow and low voice she told me, she didnt askd for it but was askd to apply. just out of curiousity, i asked her why, and then she told me that 'they' dont like her, and also her boss doesnt like her.
a bit surprised, i askd if she knw the reason and she said, she was not really sure.
She's been there for just a month or a few weeks if im not mistaken and she's a quiet person. She's in late 30's i think and she's a bit shy, friendly but not really talkative unless you talk to her first.whenever i come to her place i saw her doing her works quietly and didnt really mix with the other staff in that department.
Ive never heard her talking bad things or gossiping about the people around her.. i didnt really believe it at first when she told me that. well, i was not with her all the time so i cant really comment on this, but what i knw, she's sweet and a kind person. even before she came to work there, i alredi heard a few unkind remarks about her ,maybe they prefer someone who is 'noisy' and good at gossiping. I looked at her and I told her " dont be sad, im sure you are wanted and needed somewhere, if they dont like you, it's ok, im sure you too dont want to be around with people who dont like you ". well maybe it's hurt her pride for now and she may feel rejected, but in the long run, it's good for her. and again i said to her, " you dont want people who dont want you". umhh.. mbe not so true in christian's perspective hehe, but it's true, you cant force them to like you, and do you want to be around with ppl who dont like/want you ?. yeah i know what's in ur mind now, it's really hard to understand Jesus's love for us rite.. hmm i guess you have ur own standing.

I try to remind myself everyday about these everytime i met annoying dingbats, but those who knw me very well knew tht i could be very rude and direct sometimes, not that im enjoying doing that, but if you cross the line then maybe i need to remind you that im not all the time 'the sweet hness' you know(sweet? ahakss ). wellllll.. it's not a threat, i think everybody basically have that attitude, dont u think? hehe..
anwya, i dunno what happened to her after that, and have no idea where she would be transferred but i want to wish her all the best and hopefully she would be transferred to a place where people would appreciate her.

tiring weekend
vesper as usual on friday nite until 10pm, the person who supposed to incharge for vesper cant make it so as usual i h ave to be inchargd for the devotion. i shared about "why so much suffering" taken from the book entitld "Your Bible and You" written by Arthur S.Maxwell. If God is good, if He is love, why there is so much suffering in the world. people may have asked this for thousands of years and will go on asking it till the end of time. Probably no completely satisfying answer will be available until God makes all things plain in His kingdom, but the Bible offers several helpful suggestions, but knowing that God never leave us alone is a great comfort.
sabbath morning, i was soooooo sleepy. i get up early around 7:30am, church service at 10am but i only reachd there at 10.30am, sabbath school was conducted by clifford since my brain was on the 'idle' mood. during divine service, i was still sleepy, but i have to go up to the pulpit doing pastoral prayer. lucky i didnt fall asleep, the sermon was very interesting by bro.allan, it's about heaven.
after that, went out for lunch with lorna and da geng. another chicken rice in my menu, errkk.. around 2:30pm we had our stewardship seminar by uncle alex, about tithe and offering. very informative. well i was still sleepy...
at 5:00pm, i went home, mandi and then went out to buy some food for Harkim's birthday. we left around 8pm from church and went to Harkim's place at times square hotel. he's staying there for awhile until end of this month so we have the opportunity to look around, it was a nice hotel room and expensive i think haha.. around 20 of us there and we enjoyed our time together. we forgot to bring a lighter haha, so kasian, tada tiup lilin lohh.. no time to go and buy coz it was alredi late, but still we did really enjoyd his birthday party.
went home at 12 midnite. and then this sunday morning have to get up early again at 7:40am to for charobix(ive just found out the correct spelling, it's not cherobics as in my previous post, it's stand for "community health aerobics"). Pr.mathew even joind us this time haha.. it was fun and we managed to finish the 4th set.
around 10am we finished our charobix, took photos with Rose(Rosalinda) who will be going back to her country(El-savador) tomorrow. she's currently waiting for her working permit to be approved, so that she can work here in Malaysia. let's just pray for her. God willing..
and then we went out for lunch with polo n da geng, lola and Dev at PJ old town, hmm another chicken rice. went home to take bath and around 12:30 in the afternoon, went to KL church at cheras for pathfinder's day activities. i was quite tired and just thinking of going back home and sleep. finished around 6:25pm. uncle allan asked to join them for dinner since it would be Rose's last day in Malaysia coz not sure whether her application will be accepted. we hd our dinner at restoran Davis, Bangsar. the tandoori chicken was very tempting so i orderd one though i m really trying hard not to.. huarghh im slepi alredi. we chatted with Rose for awhile, took a few photos and asked her to teach us a few spanish words. Esa Mujer esta loca muahahaha (that woman is crazy)-i can only remmber dis one. a few other words but too bad, i hve a short-term memory. around 9:40 we went back and now at 10:44pm im still awake typing thsi .. ok im reali reali mengantuk alredi. Life itself isnt hard
Everything that happens in your life, whether you knew about it or not, was predetermined by a choice you made earlier on. We start our life on this one road, the main road, and at the very beginning we make a decision. Some go to the left, some go to the right. Others just keep going.
But every person goes in a different direction. Paths collide, and paths split. And there comes a time in everyone's journey, when you come to a fork in the road. Do you take the left, or the right? There is no straight forward. Which one do you choose? How do you know that the path you will end up choosing will take you to the right place??
Choose the road that will best lead you to your final destination. Don't take for granted the time you have as a youth to prepare yourself for the real world, because what you learn now about life, will help you when you meet reality for the first time.

Exam : undang2 kerajaan
with a blank mind and i ws very calm(amazingly), i went to putrajya, brought the 3 heavy books in my beg. the girl sitting next to me askd me if i was nervous, and i said "ummh no, i will just do what i can do, i dont really expect anything frm this exam". i was not pretending, i was very very calm haha, all i wanted to do was be done with it, that's all. it was an open book exam(nway, i was in trouble during the exam coz i didnt knw which book to refer kahakah), we were required to answer 10 out of 14 questions, all essays(3 hours).. silly me, i didnt check the books earlier and ive just find out the books dont have any index(shortcut) at the back(congrats hness!). i did managed to answer 9 questions, i feel sorry for those who will check my paper, i dun evn understnad my own writings (??)..
well considered i didnt read the books and with my writing skills.. hmm no comment hehe, though im stil hoping that i would pass this exam, after all it's only twice a year and the next exam would be next year..
moral story, dont tiru me haha.

How To Help Yourself and Others
It has been said that you are what you think about. If the morning messages are more negative than positive, I pose the question: what are you thinking about - something positive - possibilities that they can bring? Or are you thinking of something negative? How do you think it impacts your day and the people you have interactions with?
It does come down to conscious and unconscious choices. If negativity is swirling in your mind first thing in the morning, I suggest that you be aware of how you come across to others as you go through your day. Do people think you have a bad attitude, see you as cranky, depressed, irritable, not too easy to be around?
If so, why not try something new?
Why not decide to read or listen to positive messages each morning before your day begins? What could happen to your attitude if you bombarded your mind with possibilities of wonder, courage, kindness, and love in your heart for the world? I suspect others would find that you were easier to be with, that they would notice a change - though they might not be able to put their finger on it, they would notice the difference.
Each morning I come and sit for at least 15 minutes reading the quotation sections. I know first hand the impact this ritual has on my day. The power of reprogramming my mind to move past the negative ( I can't change what has happened anyway ) and to focus on the positive has been so helpful for me. I suggest it may be helpful for you too. Why not try it? You have nothing to lose except some negativity and every bit helps!

Pennies
Several years ago, a friend of mine and her husband were invited to spend the weekend at the husband's employer's home. My friend, Arlene, was nervous about the weekend. The boss was very wealthy, with a fine home on the waterway, and cars costing more than her house.
The first day and evening went well, and Arlene was delighted to have this rare glimpse into how the very wealthy live. The husband's employer was quite generous as a host, and took them to the finest restaurants. Arlene knew she would never have the opportunity to indulge in this kind of extravagance again, so was enjoying herself immensely.
As the three of them were about to enter an exclusive restaurant that evening, the boss was walking slightly ahead of Arlene and her husband.
He stopped suddenly, looking down on the pavement for a long, silent moment. Arlene wondered if she was supposed to pass him. There was nothing on the ground except a single darkened penny that someone had dropped, and a few cigarette butts.
Still silent, the man reached down and picked up the penny. He held it up and smiled, then put it in his pocket as if he had found a great treasure. How absurd! What need did this man have for a single penny? Why would he even take the time to stop and pick it up? Throughout dinner, the entire scene nagged at her.
Finally, she could stand it no longer. She causally mentioned that her daughter once had a coin collection, and asked if the penny he had found had been of some value.
A smile crept across the man's face as he reached into his pocket for the penny and held it out for her to see. She had seen many pennies before! What was the point of this?
"Look at it." He said. "Read what it says."
She read the words "United States of America."
"No, not that; read further."
"One cent?"
"No, keep reading."
"In God we Trust?"
"Yes!"
"And?"
"And if I trust in God, the name of God is holy, even on a coin. Whenever I find a coin I see that inscription. It is written on every single United States coin, but we never seem to notice it! God drops a message right in front of me telling me to trust Him? Who am I to pass it by? When I see a coin, I pray, I stop to see if my trust IS in God at that moment. I pick the coin up as a response to God; that I do trust in Him. For a short time, at least, I cherish it as if it were gold. I think it is God's way of starting a conversation with me. Lucky for me, God is patient and pennies are plentiful!
When I was out shopping today, I found a penny on the sidewalk. I stopped and picked it up, and realized that I had been worrying and fretting in my mind about things I cannot change. I read the words, "In God We Trust," and had to laugh. Yes, God, I get the message. It seems that I have been finding an inordinate number of pennies in the last few months, but then, pennies are plentiful!
And, God is patient...

4-Step Diet For Your Hair

Put your hair on a four-step diet and reap the benefits with stronger, more lustrous locks!
Step 1: Eat plenty of iron-rich protein
Protein is necessary for all cell growth, including hair cells. And the iron found within certain protein foods helps your red blood cells carry oxygen to all cells in the body, including the hair follicles.
Good sources of iron-rich protein include clams, oysters, lean beef, turkey, duck, lamb, chicken, pork, shrimp, and eggs.
Good sources of vegetarian iron-rich protein include tofu, soybeans, lentils, beans, and black-eyed peas.
Step 2: Load up on Vitamin C
Vitamin C improves the body's ability to absorb non-heme iron (also known as vegetarian-based iron), so vegetarians should eat iron-rich vegetables and foods rich in vitamin C at the same meal.
Good sources of Vitamin C include guava, peppers, oranges, grapefruit, strawberries, pineapple, papayas, lemons, broccoli, kale, and Brussels sprouts.
Step 3: Be sure to get your Bs (folate, vitamin B-6, vitamin B-12)
These vitamins are involved in the creation of red blood cells, which carry oxygen and nutrients to all body cells, including those of the scalp, follicles, and growing hair. Without enough B vitamins, the cells will not thrive, causing shedding, slow growth, or weak hair that is prone to breaking.
Good sources of vitamin B-6 include fortified whole-grain breakfast cereals, garbanzo beans, wild salmon, lean beef, pork tenderloin, chicken breast, white potatoes (w/skin), bananas, and lentils.
Good sources of Vitamin B-12 include shellfish (clams, oysters, crab), wild salmon, fortified whole-grain breakfast cereal, soy milk, trout, lean beef, and low-fat cottage cheese.
Good sources of folate include fortified whole-grain breakfast cereals, lentils, black-eyed peas, soybeans, oatmeal, turnip greens, spinach, green peas, artichokes, okra, beets, parsnips, and broccoli.
Step 4: Don't forget the Zinc
The mineral zinc is involved in tissue growth and repair, including hair growth. It also helps keep the oil glands around the hair follicles working properly. Low levels of zinc can cause hair loss, slow growth, and dandruff.
Good sources of zinc include oysters, lean beef, crab, ostrich, pork tenderloin, peanut butter, wheat germ, turkey, veal, pumpkin seeds, chicken, and chickpeas.

Is any other food or drink reported to have as many health benefits as green tea? The Chinese have known about the medicinal benefits of green tea since ancient times, using it to treat everything from headaches to depression. In her book Green Tea: The Natural Secret for a Healthier Life, Nadine Taylor states that green tea has been used as a medicine in China for at least 4,000 years.
Today, scientific research in both Asia and the west is providing hard evidence for the health benefits long associated with drinking green tea. For example, in 1994 the Journal of the National Cancer Institute published the results of an epidemiological study indicating that drinking green tea reduced the risk of esophageal cancer in Chinese men and women by nearly sixty percent. University of Purdue researchers recently concluded that a compound in green tea inhibits the growth of cancer cells. There is also research indicating that drinking green tea lowers total cholesterol levels, as well as improving the ratio of good (HDL) cholesterol to bad (LDL) cholesterol.
To sum up, here are just a few medical conditions in which drinking green tea is reputed to be helpful:

New evidence is emerging that green tea can even help dieters. In November, 1999, the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition published the results of a study at the University of Geneva in Switzerland. Researchers found that men who were given a combination of caffeine and green tea extract burned more calories than those given only caffeine or a placebo. Green tea can even help prevent tooth decay! Just as its bacteria-destroying abilities can help prevent food poisoning, it can also kill the bacteria that causes dental plaque. Meanwhile, skin preparations containing green tea - from deodorants to creams - are starting to appear on the market.
Harmful Effects?
To date, the only negative side effect reported from drinking green tea is insomnia due to the fact that it contains caffeine. However, green tea contains less caffeine than coffee: there are approximately thirty to sixty mg. of caffeine in six - eight ounces of tea, compared to over one-hundred mg. in eight ounces of coffee.

The secret of green tea lies in the fact it is rich in catechin polyphenols, particularly epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG). EGCG is a powerful anti-oxidant: besides inhibiting the growth of cancer cells, it kills cancer cells without harming healthy tissue. It has also been effective in lowering LDL cholesterol levels, and inhibiting the abnormal formation of blood clots. The latter takes on added importance when you consider that thrombosis (the formation of abnormal blood clots) is the leading cause of heart attacks and stroke.
Links are being made between the effects of drinking green tea and the "French Paradox." For years, researchers were puzzled by the fact that, despite consuming a diet rich in fat, the French have a lower incidence of heart disease than Americans. The answer was found to lie in red wine, which contains resveratrol, a polyphenol that limits the negative effects of smoking and a fatty diet. In a 1997 study, researchers from the University of Kansas determined that EGCG is twice as powerful as resveratrol, which may explain why the rate of heart disease among Japanese men is quite low, even though approximately seventy-five percent are smokers.
Why don't other Chinese teas have similar health-giving properties? Green, oolong, and black teas all come from the leaves of the Camellia sinensis plant. What sets green tea apart is the way it is processed. Green tea leaves are steamed, which prevents the EGCG compound from being oxidized. By contrast, black and oolong tea leaves are made from fermented leaves, which results in the EGCG being converted into other compounds that are not nearly as effective in preventing and fighting various diseases

There are two days in every week about which we should not worry.

Jess and I has just started eating when he came to our table again with another plate and said, ini "nasi goreng ayam", Me: "?? who ordered this" i askd my frens, coz all of us got our foods alredi, and then the guy said "tadi order nasi goreng ayam kan"... waduhhh, my frens were looking at me, i could see their funny expressions, i knw they wer trying so hard not to laugh. to avoid any further arguments i just asked him to 'tapau' it. After he went to attend another table, we were laughing so hard. Lorna and I was curious, so we checked the menu again and found out nasi goreng ayam and chicken fried rice s two different menus hahahaha..
stephen said, next time never order food in two languages. b4 dat, I ordered "lemon ais teh" and then told him again that it's "ice lemon tea", TG, he gave me teh ais limau only haha..
im going to sit for Biro tatanegara exam next week, 4 thick books which ive just bought today , i hve 6 days to read these books.. well,, i have a feeling that im going to have a real trouble doing the essays hehe...

Trusting The Unknown
"We are very near to greatness: one step and we are safe:can we not take the leap?" Ralph W. Emerson After ten years of working for a prestigious Wall Street bank and slamming into a glass ceiling, I vehemently said "Enough!" If I was going to have an inspiring, compelling life and go beyond a clock-punching, nine-to-five job, I knew I had to make the decision to create it and shift gears.
I began looking. I'd never let my deafness shortchange my dreams. I wasn't about to start now. I scanned through The New York Times in search of new opportunities. My eyes were drawn to an advertisement in the back. A financial giant was looking to hire more stockbrokers. I thought, I can do that! With great excitement, I called a few people and made an appointment to see a New York City branch vice president.
On the day of my appointment, I was terribly sick with a cold and 101° fever that threatened to keep me in bed. Yet, I knew I couldn't let this golden opportunity slip away, so I showed up for the interview and spoke with vice president for over three hours. I thought he was surely going to hire me on the spot. Instead, he instructed me to meet with twelve of his top stockbrokers for further interviews. I was floored!
But., then maybe that's a good sign, I thought, trying to rationalize his decision.During the next five months, every one of the twelve professionals discouraged me from becoming a stockbroker.
"You're better off in a safe 9-to-5 bank job," they proclaimed. "Eighty percent of newcomers fail within their first year," they added. "You have no investment experience.""You won't make it."
The more attacked my dream, the more my stomach tightened. I could hardly breath. I realized then that I would have to "fake it to make it."
My final interview was scheduled on a cold, blustery January day on Fifth Avenue. Five minutes into the meeting, it was obvious the vice president didn't know what to do with me.
I handed him a 25-page marketing report on how I would build my business. I hoped this would convince him that I was indeed the man for the job. But, it didn't. Noticeably uncomfortable, he nervously played with a paper clip and pretended to read my report. Apparently, he wasn't confident that I could perform the job. I felt a tremendous opportunity was about to slip through my fingers.
So I looked at him straight in the eye and captured his attention."Sir," I said confidently. "If you don't hire me, you'll never know just how much I could've done for this firm." When I heard my own brazen words, I panicked. My God, I thought, what have I done? Can I really back that up?
I nervously waited. The seconds seemed like minutes and the minutes, like hours.He finally spoke.
"Okay, you've got the job!" he announced.I stood up and was about to leave when he added, "On one condition."My heart sank.
"First," he said, "you must first resign from the Bank of New York effective two weeks from today and enroll in our three-month training program. Then, you have to take the Series 7 stockbroker exam. And, you must pass it on the FIRST try." He drove home his final point, "If you fail even by one point - you're out!"
My mouth went dry. Inward, I shook uncontrollably. I choked at the prospect of taking a huge leap of faith into the unknown. I stood to lose everything!
Then, captivated by this ultimate risk taking opportunity and by a courage that I knew would forever change my future, I swallowed hard and spoke confidently, "I'll take it." Little did I know the impact of that split-second decision.
As instructed, I cut my lifeline to the Bank and leapt into unproven waters.After three months of training, it was time for me to take the three-hour exam. The test site was on Madison Avenue, a short distance from where I would be working, if I passed the test. I took the elevator to the seventh floor and signed in. From the reception area, I could see the test room through the glass partition. It was full of computers, all deliberately spaced in several rows. The room was sparsely furnished with the barest of essentials of scrap paper, several sharpened pencils and uncomfortable-looking chairs.
The exam proctors led me to my assigned computer. One of the most important tests of my life was about to begin. They gave me a signal to go ahead. I was extremely nervous but as the test progressed, I felt increasingly confident. Three hours passed by surprisingly fast.
It was time for the final score - the computer would calculate it and flash it on the screen. I sat there sweating and staring at the computer that held the key to my future. I was positive someone could hear my heart beating. The screen blinked on and off with the message, "Your scores are being tabulated by the computer, please wait."
The wait seemed like hours. The scores were finally displayed.I had passed! I let out an audible sigh of relief.
Since that day, I've never looked back. I exceeded not only my own expectations but also those of the manager who took a chance and hired me on that fateful day. Before being promoted himself, he was around long enough to witness my personal sales soar 1,700%, hand me several sales awards and see me on CNN.
That was four years ago. I am now a inspirational speaker and author.All because I took a chance, instead of hiding safely behind my deafness.My experiences confirmed the truth of Thoreau's words when he said, "If one advances confidently in the direction of his dreams and endeavors to live the life which he had imagined, he will meet success unexpected in common hours."
That's what the power of making a split second decision did for me, a deaf stockbroker-turned motivational speaker/author!
